Cheatham County is host to numerous wildlife preserves popular with animal watchers and biologists who document and research the abundance of untamed wildlife common to the area. The most substantial preserves include the Cheatham Wildlife Management Area opposite Ashland City to the west and Harpeth River State Park, a linear state park north of Kingston Springs.

The county seat is the scenic small town of Ashland City, located on the Cumberland River. Ashland City is centered around the junction of SR 12, which connects the city with Nashville to the south and Clarksville to the northwest, and SR 49, which connects the city to Springfield and Kentucky to the northeast and Charlotte to the west. A Groundbreaking Ceremony in January 2008 kicked of plans for the Renaissance Ashland City Project. The plan will include new sidewalks, a new City Hall, new buildings, beautiful landscaping and much more.

The largest manufacturing operation in Ashland City is State Industries, (State Water Heaters), which fabricates A.O. Smith, State Industries, Reliance, American, Whirlpool and Apollo water heaters. They are the largest manufacturer of water heaters in the United States. This facility provides work for many residents of Cheatham County and nearby Montgomery and Dickson counties.

Points of Interest:

The two-story Cheatham County Courthouse was completed in 1857. Shopping and restaurant opportunities are all within walking distance of the historic landmark on Main Street in Ashland City.
Enjoy hiking, bicycling, horse-back riding, bird-watching, or just taking in nature on the four miles of converted rails-to-trails along the Cumberland River at the Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail.
Stratton's Restaurant, located just south of the Courthouse on Main Street, is a journey back in time. The 50's style Diner is a nostalgic experience complete with classic jukebox, hand dipped ice cream floats and shakes, and classic American Decor.
For those boating on the Cumberland River, pull over by the Cumberland River Bridge in Ashland City and dock at the Riverview Restaurant and Marina , famous for their fresh catfish.
