Dickson County

Dickson County is 30 miles west of Nashville and 30 miles south of Clarksville. The Dickson County Courthouse in Charlotte is the oldest courthouse still in use in Tennessee. The county boasts 19 century farms that have been owned by the same families for at least 100 years. Dickson County was ranked in the top 30 of The Progressive Farmer magazine’s Southeast list of Best Places to Live in Rural Tennessee for 2007.

Maruy County

Although Charlotte is the county seat, Dickson is the county's largest city. Dickson boasts several large industries including TENNSCO Corporation, Quebecor Printing, Teksid Aluminum Foundry, Wabash Alloys, Fiesta Grills, Premdor Entry Systems, Sumiden Wire Products, Amhil Enterprises, Tennessee Bun, Porcelain Industries, Shiloh Industries and Crossville Ceramic Tile.

Of special interest to historians and genealogists is the Dickson County Public Library and Life Long Learning Center in Dickson and the Dickson County Archives in Charlotte that house a fine collection of materials concerning the Cumberland Region and its people.

Solid Waste Collection

Dickson
The City of Dickson provides free curbside garbage pickup at residential locations for all homes inside city limits. Collections are made once a week, and garbage must be placed in front of the home at the street. Charlotte
The City of Charlotte provides free household garbage collection for residents of the city. Pickup is provided once per week on Wednesday morning. For information on requesting the service, call Billy Lewis at (615) 789-4076.

White Bluff

THINGS TO DO

Montgomery Bell State Park
More than 750,000 people each year visit Montgomery Bell State Park which is located seven miles east of Dickson in Dickson County. The 3,782 acre park offers an 18-hole golf course, restaurant, gift shop, approximately 19 miles of trails, playgrounds and three lakes. The park has campgrounds and RV camp sites, rustic group camping cabins, 8 2-bedroom vacation cottages and a 120-room, 5-suite inn. Jon boats, canoes and paddle boats are available for rent at the park as well. Other activities include horseshoes, softball fields, volleyball, basketball and playgrounds The Inn, Conference Center and restaurant overlook the lovely Lake Acorn. Amenities include cable television, year-round indoor pool, tennis courts, jacuzzi, and outdoor pool (seasonal), exercise room and laundry facilities. The Inn has 120 rooms and 5 suites with every room having a view of the lake.

The Renaissance Center
There is a lifetime of learning to be experienced at The Renaissance Center in Dickson. The center, which opened in 1999, offers classes, workshops and programs for both young and old alike. More than 100,000 people a year pass through the center doors to take a class, hear a concert, see a play, enjoy a field trip or view an art exhibit. The CyberSphere Digital Theater, one of the signature features of the center, is a four-story domed theater that combines the very latest in laser and starfield projectors with more than a dozen video and slide projectors and 14,000 watts of Digital Surround Sound for a unique performance venue.

Miss Mable’s Tea Room
Whether for its selection of remarkable teas, the decidedly feminine atmosphere or the fellowship of women of all ages who frequent the tea room, Miss Mable’s is a favorite hideaway for tea-lovers of all ages. Miss Mable’s serves lunch Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. You will also find a beautiful assortment of unique gifts geared toward elegance as well as antique furnishings and fashion in the specialty gift shops located on the upper floor.

Dickson County Courthouse
The historic Dickson Courthouse is the oldest operating courthouse in Tennessee. The courthouse, located in the heart of Charlotte, was originally built in 1804 by slaves but was severely damaged by a tornado in 1830. Rebuilt after the tornado, the circa 1833 Courthouse was enlarged by adding two wings in 1934 and was restored in the 1990s. The Charlotte Courthouse Square Historic District was recognized by the US Department of the Interior as a National Historic Site in 1977. The Historic District includes more than 22 historic buildings. A new Courthouse Annex was constructed in 1977. Nearly all of the historic properties on the Court Square have been restored to their original appearance and adapted for modern uses.

Carl’s Perfect Pig
People thought Carl Teitloff was crazy when he opened his barbecue restaurant years ago with its eye-opening pink booths. Since Teitloff converted the former market into a restaurant in 1988, Carl’s Perfect Pig has become renowned not only in White Bluff, but in places far and wide. Barbecue is not the only thing on the menu. There’s plenty of catfish and country vegetables to go around along with grilled cheese sandwiches. The restaurant is located at 4992 Highway 70 E. Broadway Drive-In
The Broadway Drive-in Theater in Dickson is one of the few places where you can still catch a movie from the comfort of your own car. The drive-in, located at 3020 Hwy. 70 near Montgomery Bell State Park, is open on a seasonal basis. The drive-in features new movies, including many that are suitable for the entire family.

Horizon Medical Center
Located 45 miles west of Nashville, the 139-bed acute medical/surgical facility was purchased by HCA, Inc. and renamed Horizon Medical Center in 1995. The facility serves the residents of Dickson, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys and Williamson Counties. Horizon Medical Center is proud to rank among the top 4% of hospitals surveyed nationwide by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as evidenced by the facility’s recent survey score of 98 out of 100.

Sarah Cannon Cancer Center
The $16.7 million‚ 23‚000-square-foot facility‚ completed in January 2007‚ includes the Natchez Imaging Center‚ physician offices for Tennessee Oncology and a resource center for the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation.
